July 23, 2025--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--South Africa's state-run utility Eskom (Sandton) has unveiled its energy transition plan--targeting 32 gigawatts (GW) of renewable capacity by 2040, while reducing its coal-based generation from 39 GW to 18 GW. The shift will be driven by a mix of new clean energy projects and "repowering" aging coal plants, where older equipment will be replaced with renewables or gas-fired systems.
