With a total investment value of $3.7 billion, the Dire Dawa fertilizer project is said to be the largest investment project to-date between Morocco's OCP Group and state-run Ethiopian firm Chemical Industries Corporation. The plant will include phosphate fertilizer, ammonia, urea and NPK production units with a capacity of 3.8 million tons per year by 2025. Ethiopia at present imports fertilizer from Morocco for the majority of its agricultural needs. The first phase of the Dire Dawa complex will involve the production of 2.5 million tons per year of fertilizer by 2022--eventually increasing to 3.8 million tons per year--rendering Ethiopia self-sufficient in fertilizer and creating opportunities for export. br>
