Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Greater Houston region in Texas covers 10,000 square miles across nine counties, making it home to a wide range of industrial activity. Industrial Info is tracking $5.5 billion worth of projects that are planned to kick off construction during the first quarter in the area.
The region is known as a hub of oil and gas activity, although its construction projects range from oil and gas production to manufacturing to chemical processing. However, some projects may not kick off as planned, with construction starts slipping further into 2024 or even later.

Enterprise Products Partners LP (NYSE:EPD) (Houston) is gearing up to add the 14th train at its natural gas liquids (NGLs) fractionation complex in Mont Belvieu. The new 200,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) train will increase the complex's total fractionation capacity to 1.57 million BBL/d to accommodate growing volumes from the Permian Basin. Texas also is home to renewable energy-generation project activity, and a subsidiary of Clean Capital Partners (New York, New York) plans to begin adding a $385 battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Longbow solar plant in Brazoria County, outside of Houston. The 350-megawatt (MW) BESS unit is designed to utilize lithium-ion battery technology for use when the sun isn't shining. Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm DEPCOM Power Incorporated (Scottsdale, Arizona) aims to begin construction in March, although the project has a medium (70-80%) chance of moving forward as planned, according to the Power GMI Project Database. A major source of infrastructure in the area is Port Houston, home to the Houston Ship Channel, which is the busiest waterway in the nation, according to the port authority, which cites the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Industrial Info is tracking a roughly $1 billion multi-phase expansion of the channel, also known as Project 11, and one phase is expected to kick off in January: Expansion 3 involves widening the existing channel at the Barbours Cut Terminal from 300 feet to 455 feet and modifying the channel entrance, among other work. This phase is expected to wrap up in early 2025. Subscribers to the Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here to read more information.
