Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--India is gearing up to expand its natural gas pipeline network and liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification facilities, on the back of the federal government's plans to increase its share of natural gas in the country's energy mix to 20% by 2030.
India's pipeline regulator, PNGRB, plans to expand the natural gas pipeline network to about 35,000 kilometers in the next few years, in conjunction with a number of new regasification terminals and the expansion of existing terminals.
It is expected that by 2030, the demand for natural gas will increase to 746 million standard cubic meters per day, with gas-based power generation accounting for the largest increase in demand, followed by city gas distribution, along with the industrial and refinery/petrochemical sectors.
Major natural gas projects in India include the North East Gas Grid Project, Kukrahati LNG Regasification Terminal, Karaikal FSRU, Gopalpur FSRU and Chhara LNG Terminal.
