Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--M.A. Mortenson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) was founded in 1954 and has grown to become one of the leading engineering, procurement and construction firms in the U.S, serving a diverse range of geographies and sectors. Industrial Info is tracking more than $16 billion worth of U.S. active projects involving M.A. Mortenson, ranging from data centers to windfarms.

Among Mortenson's largest projects is the Chokecherry Wind Energy Project, headed up by Power Company of Wyoming LLC (Denver, Colorado) and under construction near Rawlins, Wyoming. Construction on the project kicked off in the first half of last year and is expected to wrap up in 2025. The facility includes 500 3-megawatt (MW) turbines for a total generation capacity of 1,500 MW. A sister project, the Sierra Madre Windfarm, is expected to begin construction this summer and will provide an additional 1,500 MW of power. The windfarms will help meet increasing renewable energy demand in California. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can click here for the Chokecherry report and here for the Sierra Madre report.

Less ambitious wind projects involving Mortenson include AES Corporation's (NYSE:AES) (Arlington, Virginia) Chevelon Butte Windfarm near Winslow, Arizona, construction of which kicked off in 2022 and is expected to be completed in the coming months. Upon completion, the facility will use 156 2.85-MW turbines to achieve a nameplate generating capacity of about 450 MW. Subscribers can click here for more details.

But wind power isn't the only form of power on Mortenson's books, which includes $3.7 billion worth of solar power projects. Included in this is Renegade Renewables LLC's (New York, New York) planned Dawn photovoltaic solar farm near Hereford, Texas, about 50 miles southwest of Amarillo. The facility will include more than 1.5 million solar panels on a single-axis, ground-mounted tracking system to achieve a nameplate generating capacity of more than 650 MW. Construction is expected to kick off in early 2024 and last about two years. Subscribers can click here for the full report.

Outside of power generation, one of Mortenson's biggest areas of work is data centers, and the company appears to have become a favored contractor of Facebook parent Meta Platforms Incorporated (NASDAQ:META) (Menlo Park, California). Among Mortenson's projects for Meta is the addition of three buildings at Meta's data center complex in Eagle Mountain, Utah. Construction on the first of these, Building 5, is expected to kick off soon and includes a 450,000-square-foot data center that will help expand Meta's data processing abilities. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here for the report.

In Casa Grande, Arizona, between Phoenix and Tucson, Mortenson is at work on two very different projects. The first of these is for the construction of a grassroot electronics-grade chemical plant for Chang Chun Group (Taipei, Taiwan). Upon completion, which is expected toward the end of this year, the facility will produce chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide and tetramethylammonium hydroxide. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Chemical Processing Project Database can click here for the full report. The other Casa Grande project is for a plumbing fixtures manufacturing plant for Kohler Company (Kohler, Wisconsin). The project is preparing for construction kickoff and entails putting up an approximately 1 million-square-foot facility to manufacture Kohler's Sterling-branded Vikrell bathtubs and shower stalls. Construction is expected to be completed this year. Subscribers can click here for the project details.
