Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. (PGE), Poland's largest utility, plans to construct 600 megawatts (MW) of solar farms and windfarms next to its 5.42 gigawatt (GW) Bełchatów coal-fired power station, in the south-central Polish city of Bełchatów. PGE expects the projects will bolster its plans to phase out coal-fired power generation in the coming years.

Poland has 42.175 gigawatts of power generation capacity, and 72% of that is from coal sources, according to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence. Poland will increase its renewable power capacity by 65% from 2019 to 2024, according to estimates by the International Energy Agency.

PGE owns 16 operational coal-fired plants in Poland and 27 operational renewable-energy generation facilities. Click here for a list of PGE plants from Industrial Info's subscription database.
