As coal-fired power plants are retired in large numbers throughout the region, natural gas-fired power projects dominate spending in the coming year. Among these is Advanced Power AG's (Zug, Switzerland) planned South Field Energy Center in Wellsville, Ohio. The 1,100-megawatt (MW) power plant will be constructed on a 150-acre site. Construction is planned to kick off in the summer and take a little more than two years to complete. Bechtel Corporation (San Francisco, California) is performing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on the project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $1.1 billion. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Also in Ohio, Apex Power Group LLC plans to construct a 1,650-MW natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power station in Byesville. The project is planned to kick off early next year, and Apex is expected to select an EPC contractor soon. The $1.49 billion project will take more than two years to complete. Caithness Energy LLC (New York, New York) is project director. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
A few renewable energy projects also feature in next year's planned project mix. Near Dunkirk, Ohio, Invenergy LLC (Chicago, Illinois) is developing the Hardin County Windfarm. The 271.4-MW windfarm will use 188 2.3-MW turbine-generators. Construction is planned to begin in the second quarter of next year and be completed by the end of the year. The project has an estimated TIV of $447 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In the Chemical Processing Industry, Midwest Fertilizer Company LLC (Mount Vernon, Indiana) is developing a grassroot ammonia plant, as well as urea and nitric acid units as part of a planned fertilizer complex in Mount Vernon. The ammonia unit will produce an estimated 2,400 metric tons per day of anhydrous ammonia and will use KBR Incorporated (NYSE:KBR) (Houston, Texas) technology. The urea unit will produce 2,640 metric tons per day, and the nitric acid unit will produce 1,840 metric tons per day. The projects are planned to kick off late next year and be completed by the end of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the ammonia unit and urea and nitric acid units.
Within the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, one of the largest projects planned to kick off in the region is Foxconn Technology Group's (Taipei, Taiwan) planned liquid crystal display (LCD) screen manufacturing complex in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. The $2.5 billion project will include the construction of five buildings to manufacture thin-film transistor LCD units. Kapur & Associates Incorporated (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is acting as consultant on the project, which could kick off in the second quarter of next year, taking about a year to be completed. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Also on the books is Amazon.com Incorporated's (NADAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) planned air services hub near Hebron, Kentucky. The project has an estimated TIV of $1.5 billion. The grassroot facility is being developed on a 920-acre site and will include a 3 million-square-foot building, a 350,000-square-foot loading wing and more than 100 aircraft parking spaces to handle more than 200 aircraft takeoffs and landings per day. The project would take about three years to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Michigan, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan) is planning an expansion of its vehicle assembly plant in Wayne. At the existing 2.8-million-square-foot plant, Ford would install production and supporting equipment to produce the new Ford Ranger and Ford Bronco. The project has an estimated TIV of $850 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
