May 13, 2025--Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The fossil fuel industry could generate billions of dollars in new revenue annually, reduce energy poverty and slow global warming if it captured and sold methane emissions that currently escape into the atmosphere from its operations or abandoned wells and mines. So says a new report for the International Energy Agency (IEA) (Paris, France), titled "Global Methane Tracker 2025." The report, released May 7, looked at worldwide, man-made methane emissions. Methane is a global warming concern because it traps far more heat than carbon dioxide (CO2) over its shorter lifespan in the atmosphere.
