Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The government of Uganda has commissioned the Karuma Hydropower Plant (KHP), a 600-megawatt (MW) facility on the Nile River, representing an investment fully funded by China.

The project will elevate Uganda's total generation capacity to just over 2 gigawatts (GW), playing a crucial role in the country's electricity infrastructure. As the majority of Uganda's electricity is derived from hydroelectric sources, the Karuma project is poised to connect millions of households to affordable electricity while powering some of Uganda's most dynamic industrial zones.

The Karuma Hydropower Project includes several key features, such as a 520-meter long and 110-meter-high dam, designed to generate approximately 2,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually. In addition to the Karuma project, Uganda has plans for several other hydroelectric facilities aimed at further boosting its generation capacity. The Ayago Hydropower Project, with an expected capacity of 840 MW, is in the pipeline and is anticipated to start construction soon. Subscribers can click here for the project reports.
