Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Founded in 1888, construction firm Swinerton (San Francisco, California) has become a leading building firm in the U.S. Industrial Info is tracking more than $1.2 billion worth of planned or underway projects on which the company is at work. In particular, the work includes several solar installations and life sciences projects.
Swinerton's home state of California shows the most activity for the company in terms of both number and value of projects. Among Swinerton's largest power projects in the state is the second phase of construction of the Eland photovoltaic solar farm in Kern County. Swinerton broke ground on the plant, owned by CD Arevon USA Incorporated (Scottsdale, Arizona), this summer. Phase II will employ First Solar Incorporated's (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona) thin-film solar panels to provide power generation of up to 200 megawatts (MW). Swinerton is expected to wrap up the project early next year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.
Swinerton also is edging into the renewable natural gas (RNG) sector with a couple of projects in hand, most notably a grassroot RNG plant planned in Louisville, Kentucky, for Global NRG Renewables Limited (New York, New York). Construction is set to begin next summer and take about a year to complete. The plant will transform 105 million gallons per year of Kentucky's plentiful distillery waste into pipeline-quality RNG. Unlike biogas, RNG is pipeline-ready and can be directly interchanged with conventional natural gas. Within the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry, one of Swinerton's largest projects is underway at San Diego State University in California. Swinerton is constructing three buildings with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Silver certification. The buildings will total approximately 315,000 square feet, and 50,000 square feet of this will be used by the university with the remainder set aside for other firms. Swinerton broke ground on the project toward the start of this year and is expected to wrap it up in early 2026. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.
At the opposite end of the state, Swinerton is at work on a couple of projects for Humboldt State University in Arcata, in the state's northwest. Swinerton is constructing a 67,800-square-foot building equipped with modular laboratories for the research and instruction of biology, chemistry and other life science disciplines. Swinerton also is responsible for renovating additional buildings, bringing them up to LEED-Gold certification. The building construction is expected to be completed in late 2025, followed by the renovations in early 2026. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the related project reports.
Swinerton also is involved with at least one project with a military component. In Mesquite, Texas, the company is underway with the expansion of an artillery casings plant for General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE:GD) (Reston, Virginia), which supplies artillery components to the U.S. Department of Defense. Earlier this year, Swinerton broke ground on what will be a 200,000-square-foot building addition with supporting equipment to increase casings production. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of next year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here for more details on the project.
