A couple of natural gas-fired projects head up the list in terms of project value. Among these is NRG Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NRG) (Princeton, New Jersey) plans to repower its facility in Astoria, New York. The project would entail removing seven simple-cycle combustion turbines and replacing them with 528 megawatts (MW) of combined-cycle equipment. The $560 million project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In New Jersey, Stonegate Power LLC (East Brunswick, New Jersey) is planning a 460-MW natural gas-fired station in Middlesex County. The facility will be built on a former Superfund site and will include General Electric (NYSE:GE) combustion turbines and steam turbines. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2022. Bryndan Associates Incorporated (Princeton) is a consultant on the project, which has an estimated total investment value of $550 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Renewable power also features in the region's planned project activity. In Lowville, New York, about 80 miles northeast of Syracuse, Invenergy LLC (Chicago, Illinois) will construct the Number Three Windfarm. The 105-MW facility will include 31 General Electric wind turbines and also will feature a new collector substation, switchyard substation and switchyard transmission line. The project will take approximately one year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the windfarm, collector substation, switchyard substation and transmission line.
A couple of solar farms in New England also are in the works. In Brooklyn, Connecticut, NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) plans to begin construction on its 50-MW Quinebaug Solar Farm. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. In North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Constellation NewEnergy Incorporated (Houston, Texas) will construct a 50-MW solar farm. The project is part of the first phase of Brown University's (Providence, Rhode Island) Greenhouse Gas Reduction program, which aims to source renewable energy for the university's needs. The program also includes an 8-MW windfarm that could begin construction in the upcoming quarter. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the solar farm and windfarm.
One of the largest power facilities in New York, the 2,675-MW Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant is a hydropower station that diverts water from the Niagara River above Niagara Falls. The New York Power Authority plans to upgrade some of the systems at the facility in the upcoming quarter. New integrated digital dashboard controls systems will be installed for the plant's 13 turbines along with other upgrades. Burns & McDonnell (Kansas City, Missouri) is providing engineering, procurement and construction on the project, which is expected to be completed in mid-2023. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
