Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to one market research firm, revenue from the vitamin and supplement market in the U.S. was $40.9 billion last year and the market size of the sector grew an average of 1.3% per year between 2018 and 2023. With such large numbers in mind, supplement manufacturers in the U.S. are ramping up project activity, bringing hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of activity to the U.S. through grassroot, expansion and maintenance projects.
One of the largest projects in the U.S. vitamins and supplements sector is occurring in New Albany, Ohio, where Pharmavite LLC (West Hills, California) is constructing a grassroot production plant, known as Project Sunrise. The New Albany plant will be Pharmavite's fourth manufacturing site, joining two locations in California and another in Alabama. General contractor Turner Construction Company (New York, New York) kicked off construction of the facility early last year and is expected to complete the project toward the end of this year, when the plant will begin producing gummies for Pharmavite's NatureMade and MegaFood brands. In addition, the 225,000-square-foot building will house the company's Gummy Innovation Center of Excellence, which will be used for research and development. Many other companies are expanding existing plants. Direct sales company Amway Corporation (Ada, Michigan) is one of the top vitamin retailers in the U.S. with its popular Nutrilite line of products. Amway will expand its Nutrilite plant in Ada with an 18,750-square-foot building addition that will feature nutrition laboratories, support offices, cool chambers, storage, pilot manufacturing equipment and more. Earlier this year, Amway was awarded a $2 million grant for this and another project from the Michigan Strategic Fund. The expansion comes as Amway closes a plant in California, expecting to shutter it for good in 2026. Some of the employees from California have been relocated to the Ada plant. Construction of the project is expected to begin soon and is anticipated to be completed in late 2025. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
In what can perhaps be seen as an example of the changing industrial face of North Carolina, Nature's Value Incorporated (Coram, New York) plans to renovate a two-story former R.J. Reynolds building to create more than 400,000 square feet of space equipped with equipment to manufacture sold oral dose vitamins, along with testing and laboratory space. The project is expected to begin this summer, lasting into the first half of 2025. Subscribers can click here to learn more about the project.
Gaia Herbs (Brevard, North Carolina) arrived in Mills River, North Carolina, in 2019 with the completion of a 140,000-square-foot plant that manufactures botanical supplements ranging from mushroom products to turmeric root. Next to the plant, Gaia this summer will begin work on a 100,000-square-foot expansion that will increase production of its botanical products. Construction management firm Vannoy Construction Incorporated (Ashville, North Carolina) is expected to wrap up the project by the end of 2025. Supplements also come in liquid form, and Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) (Chicago, Illinois) manufactures some of the most familiar lines of these products. The company is expanding its liquid nutritionals plant in Tipp City, Ohio, with a 155,000-square-foot building addition that will house a third aseptic filling line for its liquid supplements, including Ensure, Pediasure and Glucema. The project is expected to wrap up this summer. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
