Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The US. West Coast market region, which includes California, Oregon and Washington as well as Alaska and Hawaii, is set to see more than $4 billion in Power Industry kickoffs and completions in fourth-quarter 2018. California, thanks to several large solar power projects, leads the region in terms of overall project value.

Kickoffs
Among the highest-value projects to kick off in the quarter is EDF Renewable Energy's (San Diego, California) Palen photovoltaic solar farm near Desert Center, California. The 250-megawatt (MW) project is part of a planned two-phase project. Construction on Phase I is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2020, with construction on the 250-MW Phase II starting around the same time, for completion in third-quarter 2021. Each phase has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $500 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Phase I and Phase II.

Among the other solar projects planned to kick in California is Sustainable Power Group's (Salt City, Utah) Citizen solar farm near Mendota. The project will be built on a 241-acre parcel of land. Construction on the $180 million project is expected to begin about halfway through the quarter for completion in third-quarter 2019. The facility will have a generating capacity of 60 MW. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Oregon, Grupo Iberdrola SA (Bilbao, Spain) is gearing up to begin construction on a 202-MW windfarm near Arlington. Construction is expected to include 56 General Electric (NYSE:GE) 3.6-MW wind turbine generators and will take about a year to complete. The project is the first part of a proposed two-phase project, with the second phase planned to add an additional 202 MW. Phase II is expected to kick off in fourth-quarter 2019, taking about a year to complete. The projects have a combined TIV of $723 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Phase I and Phase II.

In Washington, Berkshire Hathaway Energy (Des Moines, Iowa) will construct a 60-mile, 230-kilovolt, overhead transmission line between Vantage and Pamona Heights. Burns & McDonnell Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) is the engineer on the project, which is expected to take about a year to complete and has an estimated TIV of $36 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Completions
Among the projects set to wrap up in the fourth quarter is Phase II of Capital Dynamics' (New York, New York) California Flats solar farm near San Miguel, California. The project is adding 150 MW to the existing facility to increase total capacity to 280 MW. Construction on Phase II began in November 2017 and is expected to wrap up before the end of the year. First Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona) is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $275 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Near Mojave, California, ArcLight Capital Partners LLC (Boston, Massachusetts) plans to complete construction of its 42-MW Phase III addition to the Voyager Windfarm before the end of the year. The project kicked off in May and included constructing 21 2-MW wind turbine generators. Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) is providing EPC on the $84 million project. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
