This was the basis for Cactus Water vs COG Operating, filed in 2021 after a dispute over ownership of the water produced in conjunction with oil production. For decades produced water in the Permian Basin, and other oil-rich regions, was simply a nuisance, with no intrinsic value. Liquid garbage, so to speak.
