Speaking at the Wells Fargo Pipeline, MLP and Utility Symposium, Armstrong noted several fully contracted projects which are now in the works, including Atlantic Sunrise, Garden State Expansion, Dalton Expansion, Hillabee phases 1 and 2, the Gulf Trace Expansion and others. Many of the "exciting backlog of projects" are tied to Williams' Transco, Gulfstream and Northwest pipelines, Armstrong said.
The Transco pipeline delivers natural gas through its 10,200-mile interstate transmission system, extending from South Texas to New York City. The Transco pipeline system is a major provider of natural gas to the northeastern and southeastern states.
The 745-mile Gulfstream System delivers natural gas across the Gulf of Mexico to meet Florida's residential and power needs. Williams' master limited partnership, Williams Partners LP (NYSE:WPZ) (Tulsa), owns 50% of Gulfstream.
The 4,000-mile Northwest pipeline system crosses the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. Northwest's bi-directional system provides access to British Columbia, Alberta, Rocky Mountain and San Juan Basin gas supplies.
Despite plenty of local opposition to some of the new projects, Armstrong remained positive regarding their outcome, including the proposed Northeast Energy Direct pipeline, which was denied a water permit by New York State earlier this year. At 12 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), Williams is the largest natural gas gatherer in the U.S., Armstrong said. Natural gas demand in North America will continue growing at a steady pace, according to the company, increasing from more than 90 Bcf/d in 2016 to more than 100 Bcf/d in 2020. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and industrial use will help drive that demand, Armstrong said.
