Researched by Industrial Info Resource (Sugar Land, Texas). After several months of demolition and relocation of three of the four units at the El-Tebbin power plant. Civil construction has gotten underway, on the new plant south of Cairo. A major portion of this work was awarded to Oraseom Construction Industries (Cairo, Egypt).
CEPC chose PSEGCO (Cairo, Egypt) for the E+P+C aspect of this $450 million project. Alstom Egypt will supply two 350MW steam turbines, and Anasaldo Caldaie (Gallarale, Italy) has been selected to supply the steam generators, and auxiliary systems. The company chose to leave one of the original 23MW simple cycle combustion turbines onsite to serve in a Black Start capacity to supply back up power to the plant. The project is slated to be completed mid 2008 with commissioning and start-up by end of third quarter of 2008.
Originally conceived as part of the long range energy plan in 2004 by the Ministry, the CEPC acquired partial funding for this project from the World Bank, which approved a loan of 259 million dollars toward this project with a project return of about 18%. El-Tebbin Project is part of Ministry of Electricy and Energy 2007-2012 fast track plan to add approximilaty 7800MW of capacity to the national grid to support industrial development, and satisfying the increasing residential needs of Egypt.
