A tropical depression that formed early Friday in the Caribbean Sea is expected to strengthen and become a tropical storm this weekend and a Category 2 or 3 hurricane before making landfall in Central America early next week. Tropical Depression Thirty-One is expected to dump more than two feet of rain in parts of Honduras and Nicaragua beginning late Sunday.
The impact to industrial plants is expected to be minimal, with only 31 operational plants currently in the storm's path. There are 13 power plants with a total generating capacity of 520 megawatts (MW) in the storm's path, and no shutdowns are expected ahead of the storm.
