Goiás Bioenergia recently announced its intentions to reactivate the former Usina São Paulo ethanol plant in Porteirão, four years after its closure. As part of a R265 million ($49.78 million) investment, the company plans to commence operations of the 1.2 million-ton-per-year sugarcane crushing plant during the final months of the 2021 harvest season. Prior to this, the site will be subject to extensive maintenance and equipment additions in order to start up the 600,000-liter-per-day ethanol distillery.
As part of a long-term strategy, Goiás Bioenergia also intends to construct a new sugar factory, which will produce up to 750 tons per day of standard sugar, as well as a 1,150-ton-per-day corn crushing unit, in order to produce corn-based ethanol during the sugarcane off-season. The company also has set out to produce 112,000 tons per year of corn DDGS.
