Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As the global semiconductor chip shortage continues to hamper production of automobiles, personal computers and other electronic devices, chip makers are stepping up to help remedy the situation.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) (Santa Clara, California) announced plans last week to invest $20 billion to construct two chip factories in New Albany, Ohio. Construction on the two factories is expected to begin in late 2022 on a 1,000-acre "mega site" outside Columbus. Production is expected to come online in 2025, Intel said.
