Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In a recent speech before the Economic Club of Pittsburgh, American Petroleum Institute (API) President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Sommers extolled Pennsylvania's role in the Oil & Gas industries. The Keystone State is the second-largest state producer of natural gas in the U.S., according to the API.

"Pittsburgh is one of the energy capitals of the world," Sommers told the Pittsburgh group on September 22. He continued: "Without Pennsylvania, energy resources, America wouldn't be the world's top producer of natural gas and oil, reversing decades of foreign imports."
Also, he said, without support from Pennsylvania natural gas, America couldn't have reduced power-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions 40% in the past 16 years, as it outpaced coal as the top source of U.S. electricity generation.
Pennsylvania's energy production industry supports nearly 500,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs in the state, and contributes $78.4 billion to Pennsylvania's gross domestic product.
