Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Typhoon Goni-20 rapidly intensified and became a super typhoon, equivalent to a Category 5 storm, as it crossed the Pacific on Friday on a path toward the Philippines. With maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour, Typhoon Goni-20 is expected to make landfall on Luzon on Sunday evening, and then continue west toward Vietnam.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has alerted the public to take necessary precautions as the typhoon approaches several cities, including its capital, Metro Manila. Hundreds of industrial plants are in the storm's projected path, including a 705 million-pound-per-year petrochemical plant, an 180,000-barrel-per-day refinery, and power plants with more than 15,000 megawatts of installed capacity.

Industrial Info's research teams continue to monitoring the operating status of the refineries, petrochemical plants and more than 50 power plants estimated to be within the typhoon's path.

Industrial Info's researchers continue to monitor the storm's progress and report on plant closures in the Disaster Impact Tracker tool as they are confirmed. For more information on the Disaster Impact Tracker, click here.
