Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Hurricane watches are in effect for Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama as Tropical Storm Ida is expected to cross the Gulf of Mexico this weekend, with the potential to become a strong hurricane by Sunday morning.

The current track of the storm has at least 10 petroleum refineries, seven ethylene units, 29 power plants and hundreds of industrial plants in its path along the southern Louisiana coast.

As of this morning, 10 offshore platforms have been confirmed to be offline, representing 642,032 barrels per day (BBL/d) of oil production and 632 million cubic feet per day (cf/d) of gas production. The current storm track suggests it could impact production at 261 offshore platforms, which have a total of 1.48 million BBL/d of oil and 2 billion cf/d of natural gas.
