NATURAL GAS
EIA: U.S. Natural Gas Output, Demand to Decline in 2021 - U.S. natural gas production and demand will drop for a second year in a row in 2021 as economic fallout from the pandemic stifles the industry, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its recent Short Term Energy Outlook. The EIA projected dry gas production will drop to 90.50 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2021 from 91.29 Bcf/d in 2020 before rising to 90.96 Bcf/d in 2022. That compares with an all-time high of 93.06 Bcf/d in 2019. (Reuters)
PRODUCTION
U.S. Oil Drillers Cut Rigs by One - U.S. energy firms this week cut the number of oil rigs operating for the first time since November as blistering cold and snow hit most of Texas, New Mexico and other big energy producing areas. The U.S. oil and gas rig count was unchanged at 397 in the week ending February 19, according to data on Friday from energy services firm Baker Hughes. U.S. oil rigs fell by one to 305, while gas rigs rose one to 91, their highest since April 2020.
LNG
Mexico Begins Receiving LNG as Gas Supply via Pipeline Rises - Mexico on Friday began discharging liquefied natural gas (LNG) bought under emergency conditions as supplies through pipelines from the United States rose, easing scarcity that led to power cuts and factory closures at its Northern states. The tanker Flex Courageous carrying about 162,850 cubic meters of U.S. LNG was unloading at the Manzanillo terminal on the Pacific Coast, Refinitiv Eikon data showed. A second tanker, was scheduled to begin discharging about 151,300 cubic meters of U.S. LNG at the Altamira terminal on the Gulf Coast in the afternoon after bad weather caused delays, an official from the port authority told Reuters on Friday.
