Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--West Fraser Timber Company (TSX:WFT) (WTC) (Vancouver, British Columbia) is mulling identical, biomass-powered generation plants at two of its subsidiaries in British Columbia. The plants are being planned in response to BC Hydro's (Nelson, British Columbia) "Bioenergy Call to Power" program to acquire and provide cost-effective, clean, renewable energy.
WTC subsidiaries Chetwynd Forest Industries (Chetwynd, British Columbia) and Frazer Lake Sawmills (Frazer Lake, British Columbia) are each to get a 12-megawatt, biomass-powered generation station at their existing sawmills. Each plant will utilize about 200,000 tons of forest and sawmill residue feedstock to power a simple-cycle generation station. The electricity generated from each plant will not only supply power for the mill, but will be sold to BC Hydro's grid. Construction is slated to begin on each plant during the second quarter of 2012 and will take about two years to complete.
