Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Bechtel Group Incorporated (San Francisco, California) is maintaining its role as a top engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider for natural-gas fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in the U.S. and abroad. Facilities built by Bechtel account for nearly one-third of global LNG capacity, according to the company. Industrial Info is tracking more than $152 billion in active projects involving Bechtel, including nearly $70 billion that are under construction.
Bechtel notched up a big win earlier this week when Tellurian Incorporated (NASDAQ:TELL) (Houston, Texas) signed it to perform EPC services on all phases of its Driftwood Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal near Lake Charles, Louisiana. The first two 5.5 million-ton-per-year trains will be built simultaneously, and the other three trains are expected to be built individually. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Driftwood Train 1, Train 2, Train 3, Train 4 and Train 5, and November 14, 2017, article - Tellurian Signs Bechtel as EPC Contractor for Driftwood LNG Terminal.
Also in Louisiana, Bechtel is at work on Cheniere Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:LNG) (Houston, Texas) $2.5 billion Train 5 at Sabine Pass LNG Production complex in Cameron. Earlier this week, Cheniere's chief executive officer said the 4.5 million-metric-ton-per year Train 5 is more than 76% complete, and should wrap up next summer. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report and November 15, 2017, article - Cheniere Keeps Eye on Future Growth in the Midst of LNG Projects.
Bechtel also is performing EPC work at one of Australia's largest LNG projects: the Wheatstone LNG Project, which started production last month and exported its first cargo to Japan. Full production is set to begin next year. The $11.96 billion first phase of the production plant comprises two trains, each with a capacity of 4.45 million metric tons per year; it will be supported by a $227.5 million natural gas-processing plant with a capacity of 189.56 million standard cubic feet per day, also under construction by Bechtel. The startup of Wheatstone has made Australia the world's second-biggest exporter of LNG, behind Qatar. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the LNG plant and natural gas plant.
In Canada, Bechtel is nearing completion on Fortis Incorporated's (TSX:FTS) (St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador) $350 million Train 2 addition and a $40 million storage tank addition at the Tilbury Island Micro LNG Liquefaction Plant in Delta, British Columbia. The new train is expected to produce 250,000 metric tons per year of LNG, while the tank will add 1 billion cubic feet per day of storage capacity. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the LNG train and the storage tank.
Bechtel also has billions of dollars' worth of natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) plants on the books. Earlier this year, Bechtel commenced construction on Advanced Power AG's (Zug, Switzerland) $1.4 billion Cricket Valley Energy Center in Dover Plains, New York, an NGCC facility that will generate 1,100 MW from three combustion turbines, each with a capacity of 200 MW, and a 133.2-MW steam turbine, all from General Electric (NYSE:GE). Advanced Power currently expects the plant to be completed in the first quarter of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In neighboring Pennsylvania, Panda Power Funds' (Dallas, Texas) $850 million Hummel Power Station in Shamokin Dam is expected to wrap up next summer. The facility is expected to generate 1,000 MW from three Siemens combustion-turbine generators, each with a capacity of 242 MW and duct-fired HRSGs, and a 274-MW steam-turbine generator. It is expected to begin supplying about 1 million customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast in the first quarter of next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
