Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $2 billion in Industrial Manufacturing Industry projects that are planned to kick off in the U.S. Midwest market region in third-quarter 2019. The region includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska and South Dakota. Iowa, with 21 planned projects valued at $1.8 billion, leads in terms of both project value and number.

Data centers are popping up throughout the U.S., and the Midwest is no different. Among the largest projects planned to start in the upcoming quarter is Apple Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AAPL) (Cupertino, California) grassroot data center in Waukee, Iowa, near Des Moines. The 400,000-square-foot facility will feature two data halls and systems to support Apple services such as Siri, Facetime and iMessages. Facebook Incorporated (NASDAQ:FB) (Menlo Park, California) is getting in on Iowa's data center action with the Phase VI expansion of its facility in Altoona, Iowa, also near Des Moines. The project entails construction of two buildings with a combined 1 million square feet. The construction also will add 60 megawatts of power. The project will kick off this summer, for completion in first-quarter 2021. Turner Construction Company (New York, New York) is the general contractor on the project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $275 million. With the rise in e-commerce comes the need for more distribution centers, and another big tech company, Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington), is planning to construct a grassroot facility in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, on a 72-acre section of the NorthPark Business Center. The four-story facility will have a footprint of 647,500 square feet and total area of 2.56 million square feet. Ford & Associates Architects (Columbus, Ohio) is the architect. Northern Tool + Equipment (Burnsville, Minnesota) plans to kick off construction on a grassroot distribution center in Ankeny, Iowa. The 600,000-square-foot building will enable the company to serve more than 100 retails stores and online customers. The facility will be expandable by another 350,000 square feet. Ryan Companies US Incorporated (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is the general contractor on the project, which is expected to wrap up in early 2020. Among the more traditional planned manufacturing projects is Trinity Rail Group LLC's (Dallas, Texas) grassroot railcar manufacturing and maintenance facility in Shell Rock, Iowa. In Norfolk, Nebraska, Continental ContiTech (Norfolk) will expand its manufacturing plant. The project includes constructing a 19,000-square-foot building addition with supporting equipment for production of rubber for industrial hoses and whitewall passenger car tires.
