PT PLN (Persero) is preparing to start the management of 11 geothermal working areas across Indonesia with an investment fund of around $1 billion. This is in partnership with PT Apexindo Pratama Duta, Ormat Technologies, Medco Energi, Halliburton, and Itochu Corporation, which will focus on drilling and producing geothermal steam, while PT PLN will focus on developing power plants. PT PLN and its partners are currently conducting intensive discussions to determine the geothermal working areas.
There are a total of 11 projects managed by PT PLN (Persero), three of which are self-managed while eight others will be through a drilling and exploration Partner. The planned total capacity is 295 megawatts. PT PLN (Persero) plans to proceed with construction of the eight projects in the next three to five years.
