Ongoing contract negotiations between General Motors (GM) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union are not going well, with a growing likelihood of a strike, according to recent reports. The talks were expected to be challenging, as GM is looking to remain competitive and profitable in today's market by reducing spending on hourly wages and healthcare benefits, while the UAW wants a bigger share of the profits that GM has earned during the current agreement period. The current schedule calls for a tentative deal to be reached by midnight Saturday, September 14, or the union workers will most likely walk off their jobs. Industrial Info is following 28 GM projects with a combined investment value of more than $2.05 billion.
