The Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) recently asked Indonesia's government to issue additional tariffs for imported steel products from China and Vietnam to safeguard the local steel sector.
An influx of cheaper steel products in Indonesia has affected local steel producers' plans for expansion and has created a glut in steel market supply. Indonesia's steel sectors are allocating $2.9 billion toward 40 projects, ranging from capacity additions to steel facility expansions, for the next three years.
Industrial Info is tracking $4.39 billion in active steel-manufacturing projects in Indonesia. Click here for a list, and see graph below for a breakdown by project type.
