Despite international sanctions imposed on North Korea, South Korea's publicly held Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) is considering a plan to supply gas to its politically isolated neighbor. In partnership with domestic power-generation companies, KOGAS plans to build gas power plants and supply gas in the North Sea and East Sea ports.
KOGAS formed the "Strategic Management Office's Inter-Korean Energy Cooperation Promotion Team" in May 2019 to explore cooperation with North Korea on natural gas projects. The Industry-Academic Cooperation Agency submitted a final report to KOGAS in December on North Korea's energy status and natural gas projects.
