Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Project activity in the Industrial Manufacturing Industry is once again gaining momentum in regions where stay-at-home orders have been eased. Among such regions are the U.S. Northeast, which includes Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, and New England, which includes Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Together, the two regions have more than $2.5 billion in Industrial Manufacturing projects that are planned to kick off this quarter.

With more than $1 billion in projects, New York easily leads the regions in terms of project value, thanks largely to the computers and semiconductors sector. In Marcy, New York, about 50 miles east of Syracuse, Cree Incorporated (Durham, North Carolina) plans to begin construction on a 200-millimeter silicon carbide wafer fabrication facility. The facility will be built on a site of the State University of New York at Marcy Nanocenter and will include a 500,000-square-foot fabrication facility with 135,000 square feet of clean room space, as well as a utility building, warehousing areas and administrative buildings. Construction is set to begin later this summer and take about two years to complete. Excyte US Incorporated (Albany, New York) is providing engineering, procurement and construction services. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In Hopewell Junction, New York, about 70 miles north of New York City, ON Semiconductor Corporation (Phoenix, Arizona) will be renovating and expanding its semiconductor manufacturing plant. The project will establish the company's first 300-millimeter chip manufacturing facility and entails renovating and expanding the existing 760,000-square-foot facility. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (Baltimore, Maryland) is the general contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
E-commerce has become key to many people during the pandemic, and the U.S. leader in the field, Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) plans to construct two distribution centers in New England. In Windsor, Connecticut, on former tobacco farmland, Amazon will build a five-story, 823,000-square-foot building with 63 loading docks. Construction is expected to be completed in fourth-quarter 2021. In Kingston, New Hampshire, Amazon will construct an 800,000-square-foot building featuring 180 loading docks that is expected to be completed in the first half of 2022. The projects have a combined total investment value of $325 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Connecticut and New Hampshire projects.
Coupled with e-commerce and other online services are data centers, and in New Britain, Connecticut, on the southwestern outskirts of Hartford, Energy Income Partners LLC (Westport, Connecticut) plans to begin construction on a data center and accompanying microgrid this quarter. The existing 85,000-square-foot data center facility will be renovated and expanded to provide enhanced data services, and fuel cells will be installed to generate 20 megawatts. Construction is expected to be completed in first-quarter 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the data center and microgrid.
A few port projects also feature in the region's planned activity. Among these is the New Hampshire Port Authority's (Portsmouth, New Hampshire) plan to expand the main wharf at Market Street Marine Terminal at the Portsmouth deepwater port. The wharf will be extended by 125 linear feet, and a collapsed wharf access bridge will be replaced with a 300-foot deck structure to accommodate Panamax-class vessels. Appledore Marine Engineering Incorporated (Portsmouth) is providing design engineering services. The project is expected to be completed in first-quarter 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
