After reaching the 7,964 megawatt (MW) capacity for renewable energy in June, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara Persero (PT PLN) continues to increase its commitment in the development of renewable energy projects.
In terms of energy mix, PT PLN has reached 14% of its renewable energy target as of June. This mix is dominated by hydro and geothermal energy, with 7.5% and 3.9% respectively of the total of the renewable energy mix.
The increase of renewable energy mix is the result of PT PLN's strategies. Examples are the co-firing of the operated coal-fired power station by mixing 5% of the total fuel with wood chips or palm kernels shell, the conversion of diesel to biomass energy and the development of floating solar power plants. The 145-MW floating solar project could be the biggest in Southeast Asia.
