The U.S. Coast Guard reported four people missing after a dredging vessel at the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas, hit a natural gas pipeline at about 8 a.m. Friday, sparking an explosion. Six others were sent to the hospital, one of whom was in serious condition, according to The Associated Press.
The U.S. Coast Guard told reporters that the dredging vessel Waymon L Boyd hit a submerged pipeline and the four crew members were missing. Firefighters initially "encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions," officials told The Associated Press, but the conflagration had been reduced by late Friday morning after the supply line feeding the fire had been shut off.
The Port of Corpus Christi acknowledged in a statement that a natural gas pipeline was involved and that operators had isolated it, according to The Associated Press.
