China's overall power consumption reached 729.4 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in August, a year-over-year increase of 7.7%, according to the nation's National Energy Administration (NEA).
For the period of January through August, total power consumption reached 4,767.6 billion kWh, an increase of 0.5% year over year, the NEA said.
Power consumption by China's primary industries (agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, and oil & gas production) reached 9.4 billion kWh, a jump of 12.1% year over year; that of the secondary industries (manufacturing) reached 480.4 billion kWh, an increase of 9.9%; consumption by the tertiary industries (services) reached 131.3 billion kWh, up 7.5%; and consumption by the households of urban and township residents was 108.3 billion kWh, down 1.2%.
For the eight-month period from January through August, power consumption by the primary industries reached 55.2 billion kWh, a jump of 9.4% year over year; consumption by the secondary industries was 3,191.4 billion kWh, down 0.5%; that of the tertiary industries was 781.2 billion kWh, down 1.0%; consumption by the households of urban and township residents reached 739.8 billion kWh, an increase of 6.3%.
