NATURAL GAS
U.S. Natural Gas Demand to Shrink 4.4% in 2020
- Natural gas demand for the U.S. industrial sector is falling amid a slowing economy and is expected to contract by 4.4% this year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic slowdown caused by it, consumption dropped from 25.4 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in January to 20.1 Bcf/d in June. This volume was almost 1 Bcf/d lower than June 2019. The EIA forecasts that by year-end, consumption of the fuel will decline 4.4% and then grow 1.1% in 2021. This is based on the assumption that demand will increase next year due to growth in the overall economy and manufacturing index. (Kallanish Energy)

U.S. Natural Gas Futures Fall More than 8% - U.S. natural gas futures fell more than 8% on Tuesday on forecasts for less demand over the next two weeks than previously expected and a rise in output. On its first day as the front-month, gas futures for November delivery fell 23.4 cents, or 8.4%, from where the November contract traded on Monday to settle at $2.561 per million British thermal units.
