Data from a U.S. Air Force Reserve aircraft indicates that Zeta, the 27th named system of the 2020 hurricane season, has reached hurricane force, with maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. Zeta was expected to move near or over the northern Yucatan Peninsula later today or tonight.
So far, Industrial Info has not witnessed any impact to Oil & Gas Production in the Gulf of Mexico, although there is some evacuation of non-essential personnel and shutting down and securing of drilling assets. As the storm enters Gulf waters on Tuesday, decisions will be made quickly regarding which platforms to shut in, as this storm is moving rapidly.
There are approximately 320 production platforms in the storm's projected path, representing 1.3 million barrels per day (BBL/d) of crude, and 2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of gas.
Although Zeta likely will follow a similar path as Hurricane Delta's from earlier this month, it could make landfall anywhere between southeast Louisiana to the panhandle of Florida on Wednesday.
Industrial Info's researchers continue to monitor the storm's progress and report on plant closures in the Disaster Impact Tracker tool as they are confirmed. For more information on the Disaster Impact Tracker, click here.
