Vietnam Electricity (EVN) broke ground last week on an expansion of its 480-megawatt (MW) Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion project, with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in attendance. The project will add two units, each with a capacity of 240 MW, bringing the plant's total output to 2,400 MW.
The new units are scheduled to begin generating electricity in the fourth quarter of 2024. The Hoa Binh Hydro Power Plant is the second-largest supplier of energy to Vietnam.
