China's total investment in power generation totaled $80.68 billion in 2020, a 29.2% jump from 2019, according to China's National Energy Administration.
China's investment in hydropower totaled $16.57 billion, a 19% increase from 2019, while investment in thermal power totaled $8.51 billion, a 27.3% drop, and nuclear power totaled $5.82 billion, a 22.6% drop.
China began operations at 190.87 gigawatts (GW) of new power-generation units in 2020, an 81.8% increase from 2019. The installed capacity of newly commissioned hydro power totaled 13.23 GW, a 197.7% jump; thermal power totaled 56.37 GW, a 27.4% increase; wind power totaled 71.67 GW, a 178.7% increase; and solar power reached 48.2 GW, an 81.7% increase.
