Energy Market highlights gathered by Industrial Info and IIR Energy
PRODUCTION
U.S. Shale Oil Production to Climb for First Time in Three Months - U.S. oil output from seven major shale formations is expected to climb by 26,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) in June to 7.73 million BBL/d, the first rise in three months, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a monthly forecast on Monday. The biggest increase is set to come from the Permian Basin, the top-producing basin in the country, where output is expected to rise by 54,000 BBL/d to about 4.59 million BBL/d, the highest since March 2020. POWER
U.S. Residential Power Use Fell 4% in 2020 - Despite many people spending more time in their homes during 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. energy consumption in the residential sector fell 4% between 2019 and 2020, according to the EIA's Monthly Energy Review. Relatively warmer weather during the winter months in 2020 significantly reduced U.S. home energy consumption for space heating compared with 2019, which was enough to offset a 2% increase in residential electricity retail sales. (EIA)
REFINING
China's April Crude Oil Throughput Grows 7.5% - China's crude oil throughput rose 7.5% in April from the same month a year ago, but remained off the peak seen in the last quarter of 2020 as several state-run oil refineries carried out maintenance. The country processed 57.9 million tonnes of crude oil in April, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Monday, equivalent to 14.09 million BBL/d. That compares with 13.1 million BBL/d in April 2020, but was well below the record level of 14.2 million BBL/d registered last November. (Reuters)
