Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Even as Hurricane Ida has weakened to a tropical depression and departed Louisiana, it has left hundreds of industrial plants with no electricity and standing flood waters. Restoring power to more than 900,000 people and hundreds of industrial plants will be difficult, with an estimated 216 substations and 207 transmission lines stretching more than 2,000 miles that are out of service in the storm-ravaged area.
Industrial has identified 70 industrial plants that are known to be without power and presumably suffered some level of damage as a result of the storm.

There are at least 10 power plants with a total generation capacity of 5,267 megawatts (MW) offline as a result of the hurricane. Complicating things, the eight primary electrical transmission points that suffered damage and remain offline are making it difficult to restore power to 900,000 people and industrial assets within the region.
At least 39 chemical plants that would normally consume 1.3 billion standard cubic feet per day of natural gas are suspected or confirmed offline, including seven ethylene plants with a total installed capacity of 14.9 billion pounds per year of ethylene capacity, at least two large hydrogen plants, two chlorine plants, a methanol producer and several specialty chemical plants.
Nucor Corporation (NYSE:NUE) (Charlotte, North Carolina) has temporarily shut the 2.5 million-ton-per-year direct reduced iron plant in Convent, Louisiana, due to limited staffing, and to assess damage. National Gypsum's (Charlotte, North Carolina) facility in Westwego, Louisiana, is without power and has not been cleared to go back into its plant to assess damages.
