In Mexico's Yucatan state, plans are being made to build what would be Latin America's largest shipyard. Shipbuilding company Fincantieri S.p.A. (Trieste, Italy) intends to carry out the project on the Caribbean coast. The facility would receive large cruise ships, container ships, tankers and other vessels. It would include two dry docks on a 40-hectare site in Puerto Progreso, where there also is a project to build a complex to repair and/or build vessels up to 400 meters in length starting in 2024.
