Japan's 2021 LNG Imports Slip, Giving China Top Position - Japan's imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fell 0.2% in 2021 to 74.32 million metric tons, giving up the world's largest buyer spot to China which increased its imports of the fuel by 18% to a record high. China's imports of LNG for the whole of last year totaled a record 78.93 million metric tons, according to customs data. (Reuters)

U.S. Crude Oil Supplies Rise - U.S. crude oil stockpiles rose last week for the first time since November while gasoline inventories grew to an 11-month high, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Thursday. Crude oil inventories rose by 515,000 barrels in the week ending January 14 to 413.8 million barrels. U.S. gasoline stocks rose by 5.9 million barrels in the week to 246.6 million barrels, the EIA said. Distillate stockpiles fell by 1.4 million barrels last week to 128 million barrels. (Reuters)
