Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Design and construction firm Walbridge (Detroit, Michigan) has its hands full with projects. Industrial Info is tracking more than $10.6 billion in active projects involving the company. While Walbridge's automotive sector projects are some of its biggest active projects, the firm also is involved in the Metals & Minerals and Pharmaceutical-Biotech industries.

Being heavily involved in the automotive sector, Walbridge is on top of the transition to electric vehicles (EVs), and one of the company's biggest active projects is poised to take advantage of this. In late 2020, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) (Detroit) announced it would begin the transition of its plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, to produce EVs by investing more than $2 billion in the facility. The new Cadillac LYRIQ will be the first EV produced at Spring Hill, alongside traditionally powered vehicles. The plant's paint and body shops are undergoing major expansions, and new machines, conveyors, controls and tooling are being added to the general assembly areas. Construction is expected to wrap up in the coming months. In its hometown of Detroit, Walbridge, along with joint venture partner Aristeo (Livonia, Michigan), is at work on a retool/modernization project for Stellantis NV (NYSE:STLA) (Amsterdam, Netherlands) at the Jefferson North assembly plant. The retool and upgrades will enable the production of the next generation of Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Dodge Durango and a new plug-in hybrid vehicle. Construction kicked off early last year and is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers can click here for the report.

Other automotive projects involving Walbridge include those at a Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan) plant in Tennessee and an electric semi-truck assembly plant in Coolidge, Arizona. Subscribers can click here for the reports.

Alongside EVs, data centers are hot items right now, and Walbridge is in on the action with Phase I construction of a data center in San Antonio, Texas, for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) (Redmond, Washington), near one of its existing data centers. The project entails constructing two buildings totaling more than 258,000 square feet along with supporting equipment to help fulfill increased customer needs for local cloud services. Construction is expected to kick off soon and be completed in early 2023. Subscribers can click here for the project report.

Industrial Info will be presenting a complimentary webinar on the global rise in data center investments on Wednesday, March 9, at 10 a.m. CST. Click here to learn more and to RSVP.

In Asheville, North Carolina, Walbridge is underway with a project at a grassroot casting foundry and manufacturing plant for Pratt & Whitney (East Hartford, Connecticut). The project includes construction of a 1.2 million-square-foot facility, of which 850,000 square feet will be manufacturing space to house an advanced casting foundry for the production of turbine airfoils. Construction kicked off last year and is expected to be completed toward the end of this year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Metals & Minerals Project Database can click here for the report.

While Walbridge's footprint in the Pharma-Biotech industry is smaller than for other areas, the company is acting as general contractor for the construction of a small molecule, high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPI) plant for contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) Piramil Pharma Solutions (Mumbai, India). The expansion project, located in Riverview, Michigan, is for the construction of a manufacturing plant with two production bays along with a warehouse and utility building. The project is expected to wrap up this fall. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can click here for the detailed report.
