Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arkansas has attracted a wealth of industrial projects ranging from solar power facilities to pipe mills. Industrial Info is tracking more than $5.1 billion worth of projects that are presently under construction in the state.

One of the largest investments ever to grace central Arkansas is being developed in Morrilton, where Green Bay Packaging Incorporated (Green Bay, Wisconsin) is putting $1 billion into expanding its linerboard mill. Dubbed Project PowerPack, the project entails replacing key components such as the recovery boiler and biomass boiler infrastructure as well as installing an electric turbine that will reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions. Green Bay also is purchasing 300 acres of land for future investment and expansion. The project could potentially double the plant's output, raising it to more than 1.03 million tons per year, according to investment banking firm Truist Securities. The project broke ground earlier this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, when Green Bay expects to begin adding 35 additional jobs to the plant. Another Pulp & Paper project kicked off earlier this summer in Monticello, about 90 miles south of Little Rock. There, paper behemoth Weyerhaeuser Company Limited (Seattle, Washington) is establishing a new state-of-the-art plant to manufacture its engineered wood product TimberStrand. TimberStrand laminated strand lumber (LSL) is made from wood strands arranged in a parallel formation, unlike oriented strand board (OSB) in which the wood strands lie unevenly across each other. This gives TimberStrand increased strength and straightness compared to other products. TimberStrand is used in a variety of construction applications such as wall framing and floor joists. The grassroot plant will employ a biomass-fired cogeneration system to support its heat and power needs. The plant is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027, when it will begin ramping up to production capacity of 10 million cubic feet per year of TimberStrand LSL. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is quite supportive of new oil and gas pipelines, and tubular steel provider Welspun Tubular LLC (Houston, Texas) is there to meet the call as it expands its pipe mill at the Port of Little Rock. The project will allow the plant to manufacture larger pipes up to 24 inches in diameter with wall thickness of up to three-quarters of an inch. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year, leading to 175 new jobs. Dietary supplements in the form of gummies have proven popular among all age groups for their sweet flavors and ease in taking. Supplement-maker LifePlus (Batesville, Arkansas) is expanding its campus in Batesville with the construction of four new buildings. Having previously completed a new warehouse facility, LifePlus has now moved on to the third building, a 60,000-square-foot structure that will house mixing and blending equipment, packaging equipment, autoclaves, filling lines and more, with a focus on over-the-counter gummy supplements. This third building is expected to be completed in the coming months and will move LifePlus closer to the 150 total jobs it hopes to have created when all four buildings are constructed. All of the power-generation additions currently underway in Arkansas are for photovoltaic solar facilities that will add more than 630 megawatts (MW) of new generation to the state's grid. NextEra Energy Incorporated (Juno Beach, Florida) is contributing 400 MW of this in the form of two new solar plants. Of this, 200 MW will come from the Forgeview solar facility in Blytheville, which will feature approximately 709,000 solar panels on a single-axis tracking system. Engineering, procurement and construction contractor Moss & Associates Construction Company LLC (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) is expected to wrap up the project in the fourth quarter of this year.
