Battery-Storage Trade Group Urges PJM to Build Out Capacity

October 17, 2025--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The U.S. Energy Storage Coalition (USESC), a recently formed trade association, warned North America's largest grid operator it needs to accelerate its development of battery energy-storage system (BESS) units over the next 20 years to meet demand and state-level carbon-reduction goals. Industrial Info is tracking more than $18 billion worth of active and proposed battery-storage projects across the PJM region, totaling roughly 8.1 GW of potential storage. "Without this buildout, the region, which serves 65 million customers from Chicago to New Jersey, risks severe power shortages, forced load shedding of up to 15 GW during extreme weather, and sharp increases in electricity costs," USESC says. Companies featured: Brattle Group, Shell plc, First Solar Incorporated, Tesla Incorporated, RWE AG, LONGi, Contemporary Amperex Technology Company Limited, Swift Current Energy, BlackRock Infrastructure Investment Group, Eolian Energy, American Electric Power Company Incorporated, AES Corporation, Alliant Energy Corporation, DTE Energy, Dominion Energy Incorporated and Invenergy LLC
