Companies in Brazil's textiles sector earn around R$15 billion (US$2.76 billion) a month and generate more than 1 million direct jobs across the country, the textile industry, as well as other important sectors of the Brazilian economy. But those companies have suffered great losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sector currently operates with around 30% of installed capacity, but the situation could be worse, had it not been for the conversion of factories to produce other products, such as masks and other personal protective equipment, and the virtual commerce business. Some industries have already started rewiring equipment in anticipation of an increase in orders in the coming months. The textiles sector is forecast to end this year with demand 30% lower than in normal times. Turnover is expected to be between 13% and 20% lower than that of 2019.
