In the company's recent fourth-quarter earnings conference call with industry analysts, Entergy Chief Executive Officer Leo Denault discussed the progress the company had made in 2019 as well as some of its projects in the pipeline. Denault said, "In Power Generation, we placed into service two clean, efficient, modern CCGTs [combined-cycle gas turbines] totaling 1,800 megawatts (MW). In Louisiana, the Saint Charles Power Station came online in May ... A few months later, Entergy Mississippi purchased the Choctaw Generating Station. These resources are part of our portfolio-transformation strategy to replace older generation with cleaner, more efficient assets." Entergy is progressing with several natural gas-fired projects in Texas and Louisiana. In Texas, the company is underway with construction on the 993-MW Lewis Creek Power Station in Willis, Texas, about 45 miles north of Houston. Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm McDermott International Incorporated (Houston) began construction in late 2018 and is expected to be completed in fourth-quarter 2021. In its home state of Louisiana, Entergy is moving on other natural gas-fired projects, including a 994-MW combined-cycle plant in Westlake, which is being built on a brownfield site near an existing power station. Entergy is at work on another brownfield power station in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Construction on the 336-MW Washington Parish Energy Center began last year, with Zachry Group (San Antonio, Texas) providing EPC services. The project entails replacing the older units with new General Electric (NYSE:GE) simple-cycle units. The $300 million project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021.
