May 9, 2022--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A 610-megawatt coal-fired unit caught fire overnight at NRG Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NRG) (Houston, Texas) coal- and-gas-fired W A Parish Power Station in Fort Bend County, one of the U.S.' largest conventional power plants and a major power producer for the region. The fire on Unit 8 has been extinguished, but the 3.8-gigawatt plant, located outside the Houston area, remains shut down at this time. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has not announced any impacts to the grid's power supply, but this comes at a time when the National Weather Service expects record-high temperatures of 94 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit this week in the Houston area.
