Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas) is one of the leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms in the world. Industrial Info is tracking more than $150 billion worth of projects across the globe in which the company is active. The U.S. and Canada play a key role in the company's activity, accounting for more than $62 billion of projects, thanks in large part to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in British Columbia.
Fluor's largest undertaking in the U.S. and Canada is Shell plc-led (NYSE:SHEL) (London, England) LNG Canada's grassroot LNG production and export plant in Kitimat, British Columbia. Acting as EPC firm on the project, Fluor is leading construction of two LNG trains, each capable of producing 7 million tonnes per year. The marine terminal will be able to accommodate two LNG carriers with capacities of 130,000 to 240,000 square meters. The project has been under construction since 2019 and is expected to wrap up next year. After completion of the first two trains, two more trains could possibly be built, doubling production capacity to 28 million tonnes per year. The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) has been in the news recently after talks of beginning to refill the reserve after record drawdowns to help control fuel prices left the SPR at its lowest levels since 1983. Fluor is providing support to projects at four SPR sites in Texas and Louisiana that will extend the life of the sites. The project entails replacing equipment, piping, bridges and supporting systems to extend the sites' lives by 25 years. The four projects kicked off in 2022 and are expected to wrap up in 2026. While oil and gas projects account for much of Fluor's North American portfolio, the company's types of projects are diverse. In Bear River City, Utah, about 65 miles north of Salt Lake City, Fluor is providing EPC services for the expansion of a paper mill complex for Proctor & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) (Cincinnati, Ohio) by constructing new buildings and adding converting equipment for towel/tissue products. Construction kicked off last year and is expected to be completed in early 2024. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pulp & Paper Project Database can click here for the full report.
In Corpus Christi, Texas, Fluor is at work on adding a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant to Corpus Christi Polymers LLC's (Corpus Christi) facility. At the same plant, Fluor also is participating in construction of a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit. The projects kicked off in 2020 and are expected to wrap up next year. Upon completion, the units will be able to produce 2.2 billion pounds per year of PET and 2.6 billion pounds per year of PTA. Fluor also is involved in several pharmaceutical-biotech projects. Earlier this year, the company started construction of a nucleic acid oligonucleotide active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) plant addition at Agilent Technologies Incorporated's (Santa Clara, California) campus in Frederick, Colorado. The project involves expanding an existing building by approximately 275,000 square feet along with adding required equipment to increase production of nucleic acid oligonucleotide APIs. The project is expected to be completed in early 2025. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can click here for more information.

The project kicked off in 2021 and entails constructing 100,000 square feet of new warehouse space and installing two production lines in addition to the seven existing ones to expand the production of Funyuns and tortilla chips.
