Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Hyundai Steel (Seoul, South Korea) is implementing several projects to increase energy efficiency at its steel mill in Dangjin, South Korea.
Hyundai Steel is in the process of replacing the wet quenching system for cokes (CSQ) with a dry quenching system (CDQ). The existing CSQ cannot recover waste heat and emits massive dust. Meanwhile, the CDQ system is much more ecofriendly by generating electricity and steam with the waste heat in the quenching process; it can also decrease dust emission. Construction for replacing two CSQ with CDQ systems is underway, while a third replacement is scheduled to be completed by 2027. One of the existing CSQ systems will be dismantled this year.
